On the very cusp of the end of January, Nigel was still searching for a "new", thrifted, charity shop mug/cup, with a maximum budget of 50p, as part of our very exciting, 2025 Bucket List quest.
He really thought he'd found just the thing, in The Vale (our Evesham charity shop of choice), thinking that a small, obviously vintage, cup with feet would certainly tick all the right boxes. According to the little fella, it was the sort of cup that had a certain modicum of sophistication, where you couldn't help delicately raising your pinkie finger when using.
However, as he re-examined it, he saw that some of the gold was a little rubbed on said feet and when almost getting it to the till, felt "spookily" drawn to put it back on a nearby shelf and not make a considered purchase.
A full cup and saucer set, in lustre wear, wonderfully gold encrusted, with, potentially, a hand painted, romantic courting couple dressed respectively in crinolines and pantaloons ....... and again, priced at 50p.
Needless to say, Darrell was very impressed and dare I say, a tad jealous, suggesting that before Nigel goes at it all gung ho for his tea and hot chocolate, we should do a little more research, as this 50p bargain, could very well turn out to be inheritance piece of some significance, perhaps worthy of a trip to the Antiques Roadshow ......... so watch this space but for now another resplendent tick on our 2025 bucket list calendar. What are we like?

Great find, Nigel! I think Arthur Negus would have improved.
Now - who else remembers Arthur Negus?
You’re back!! Well done Nigel. I’ve not heard of Arthur Negus-will look him up.

Showing my age but I remember him. His expertise was in furniture.
Oh yes Mr D - dear Arthur Negus - that takes me back.
As for young Nige - what a find. An acute young eye for such things. Let us know if you've hunted out a significant purchase - we all need to be aware early so we can pack our suitcases for the Monkey trip of a lifetime. JantheFan x
