First Run Of The New School Year

It goes without saying that the first run of the new school year was ..... "emotional" for an excited young Eric. It was all thunderstorms and heavy showers, along with a noticeable drop in temperature as the little fella popped his nose round the front door to see what the weather conditions were like before this his inaugural school run journey of 2025-26.

We're now, unbelievably, in the "ber" months of an ebbing year, which generally means we are also heading for a "brrrrrrr" in the air. Why and how did the heady, carefree days of the summer holidays have to end so soon?

However, it was onwards and upward for Eric, anticipating, hopefully, lots of  adventures along the way of them.

His famous Uncle Eric Treat Bag had been packed for the past week at least, with all his beloved niece and nephew's favourite apres l'ecole snacks ready to go, plus a couple of pounds in his back pocket just in case anyone fancied a slushie from the corner shop or a cake from the bakery in Lldls.

Bertie had to be collected from his new classroom for the first week so that his new teacher could get used to all the new faces of those doing the collecting before Bertie could then meet Eric at the school gate next week.

While Iris was met, as per usual, by the dentist, but after a week or two Eric is going to arrange another place a little further down the road to met up now she is a year older and a lot more confident.

Needless to say, everyone was sooooo happy to see each other, I & B pouncing on the aforementioned treat bag, amidst much excited tellings of everyone's day in their new classrooms, with new staff, the occasional change in routine and higher expected expectations and new school shoes akimbo!

As I said, it was emotional, but it didn't take long for everything to fall back into place, as if it was only yesterday that they did their last run of the old school year ........ happy, happy days!
