We Try Little Debbie's Christmas Tree Cakes

As you know, Eric and Alice were sent on their American way with a bit of a shopping list tucked into their luggage for some of the typical, festive comestibles popular across the pond, that we've always wanted to try and they "dun gud", as they found quite a bit of what we asked for ......

..... including "Little Debbie" Christmas trees! We believe Little Debbie is an iconic brand of cakes in the US of A, perhaps the equivalent to our Mr Kipling (?) and well, it would be rude of Darrell and I not to give them a festive whirl, while it's still technically Christmas ......

So today, for our delectation, we are trying Miss Debbie Christmas Tree Brownies and Christmas Tree cakes, they, we hope, promise much!

To start with the boxes, which obviously hold memories of shopping in foreign climes for Eric and Alice and, as such, Darrell has promised that he'll create "something" of an artistic nature using them for next Christmas, perhaps to hang on the tree, to keep the memories alive, a sort of "this time last year we were ......." thing.

Individually unwrapped and served on our beautiful Dollar Tree Christmas plate iad cakes certainly looked impressive, the colours quite vivid ....... and in no way, to be honest, subtle!

 But, how did they taste?

Well, to be truthful, we were a tad disappointed, they promised, as we said much, but delivered something not really to our taste.

For us the cake was claggy and on the heavier side of fairy cake and a little too artificial for our palates ........

...... and the icing was odd, quite plastically and chewish in texture and lacking in the Mr Kipling crumbly sweetness we're more used to, if you know what we mean.

We hope that doesn't make us come over as totes ungrateful, we really gave them our best, but they simply weren't for us. Perhaps it's just that they don't travel especially well in a crammed suitcase, in the hold of an airplane, flying at high altitude, through cloud and over land and ocean.

We were honest with Eric too, as he eager to know what we thought and he had to agree .....quite simply it was a case of different palates in different places .......

...... perhaps the also requested Strawberry Milkshake Pop Tarts will bode a little betterer instead!

Oh dear, never mind. At least you tried. Fingers crossed for the Pop Tarts.

"For us the cake was claggy." Claggy sounds like a word JtF might use. Clarty, too, JtF?

The cakes looked interesting, not a brand I’ve seen in the American shops. Their cakes, chocolate & cheese don’t quite compare to the ones we’re used to and we’ve done extensive tasting!

Claggy would indeed be sticky, chewy, bit like chewing gum.

Clarty would indeed be very wet and muddy Mr D, something that if one walked upon it, it would suck one's wellies from one's feet.
squelch, squelch schelch.
