It has to be said that our local Lidl doesn't always have everything as advertised dans their flyer magazine .......
We'd set our hearts on trying a pot of Mexican chia seed pudding in honour of our beloved follower and serial commentor, in actual, real life Mexico, Mr D .......
........ however for us, ordinary homo sapiens, it seems almost too exotic for words.
So, with spoons delicately poised, we knew we were up for a taste of the unusual, not that we are total strangers to a chai seed .....
First impressions, on stirring the pot to evenly distribute the seeds, to be honest didn't bode well, resembling, as the little fella put it, some sort of mouldy, alien spawn, but though it is said that we "eat with our eyes", we persevered.
We definitely got mango and the texture of the chai, but we didn't get the turmeric (perhaps it was more for the colour and health giving properties than flavour?). I'll be honest, we were expecting it to be milky, but instead, we'd liken it to a very finely sieved, fruit puree.
It was different, but as you can see we wiped the pot clean. It felt very worthy and healthy, at least we'll be erm ........ regular and buzzing with antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. A comestible more suited (for us) to breakfast than an indulgent pudding.
...... but after that, perhaps not, however, we'll be advised by the good Mr D as to how he might perhaps enjoy it a little better, in its country of origin, but maybe not by adding any cuy, (guinea pig), to it, if you don't mind!
Our score? Straight out of the pot, a very respectable 7 out of 10 chihuahuas out of Tijuana Band on our world famous Richter Scale of Noms! What are we like?
