A Frog In The Throat Is Worth Two In The Bush?

Following on from the other day and Pharmacy Michelle's delicious pile of Southport free magazines (including, would you believe, an ad for The Walking Stick Shop, which offers its customers a free walking stick MOT, as well as a measure and cut service) ....... 

 ......it has to be said that our own free freebie, The Vale, yet again offered very little other than its usual ear wax removal, funeral services and tee sponsorship(??).

However, there was one tiny little gem, on page 14, that had me smiling, reminding me once of a French teacher colleague, way back in a previous life, who almost spat her tea all over me, when I apologised for having "a frog in my throat", thinking that I was being unbelievably rude, never having  heard the expression before. Mr D, no doubt will also remember the infamous and formidable Mademoiselle Duchene?

I have to admit to being a total stranger to the sayings original meaning, but now here it was, right in front of my eyes ......

 ....... well I never .....AND what is more, you can still get the featured cough drops from Amazon (and other such reputable outlets I'm sure).  

Now, there's a useful little novelty gift with potential for Darrell and Nigel, to name but two!  To quote "an original VERY strong and penetrating (???) lozenge" and "NOT for wimps"!  I wonder what they actually taste like, as it only states natural flavours in the list of ingredients? I guess frogs are pretty natural and a prized delicacy in la belle France in particular.  Hmmmmmmmmm

Going off on another tangent, re: Southport's walking stick shop, a weekend break in 2025 could be becoming an even more tempting prospect, as I know Darrell for one has always held a long felt want for a formal cane or a stylish country stick, and then, a seat stick would no doubt come in very useful for Nigel on his many school runs ......
