As legend has it, St Nicholas (alias Father Christmas) threw three bags of gold down the chimney of three very poor sisters. A bag landed in each of their stockings, hung up to dry, which meant that they then had a dowry and could marry. Finding an orange on Christmas morning, in your stocking, symbolises that gold.
However, although full blown oranges, satsumas, clementines etc. are to be found in our festive fruit bowl ........
..... it has to be said that a box of orange and lemon slices would be total and most unwanted strangers amidst The Towers. We tried them once and then again just to make sure, but they were truly awful (well below zero on our world famous Richter Scale of Noms) and therefore never the twain shall mix, no matter that they are, for some people, a yuletide de rigueur.
Nigel says that even after all these years, his memories of trying one are still very much vivid in his mind. He thinks it's mostly a texture thing, but they still have the power to make him feel extremely queasy whenever he sees them. So no, on this occassion, no considered purchase would ever be dreamed of!

Agreed! I have never seen the attraction.
A Terry's Chocolate Orange, however, is entirely a whole other thing. Now they are most definitely nomtastic.
Big swerve of those in the aisles then! I think the box, colours and design always look so nice too! JantheFan x
